Education. We sponsor an annual scholarship, named after chapter daughter and local historian Betty Briscoe. Awarded to a student attending St. Mary’s College of Maryland in St. Mary’s City, preference is given to a history student from Calvert County. Additionally, we support the multiple scholarships awarded at the national level to college and graduating high school students. For more information on scholarships available to all, please click on the links below. We also support DAR Schools: six educational systems across the U.S. that encompass a variety of special needs programs.
Patriotism. We participate in welcoming new citizens at naturalization ceremonies. Project Patriot supports America’s service personnel in current conflicts abroad. DAR Service to Veterans focuses on meeting needs of those residents of the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Wreaths Across America supports the sale and placement of Christmas wreaths on the graves of fallen service men and women. Additionally, we present medals to the outstanding NJROTC students in each of the four Calvert County high schools with such a program.
Historic Preservation. A recent project included transcribing Calvert County wills from 1880 to 1912. In the past, we’ve sponsored the Calvert County Historical Society for a Special Projects Grant from NSDAR that allowed the society to expand its Calvert County African American Archives.
